The Porta Potty StigmaRead Now
When the portable toilet was invented at the docks in Long Beach they were seen as a great innovation in sanitation. Now the dock workers didn’t have to duck in between the cargo or rush to the nearest permanent toilet to use a bathroom. For many years after people appreciated the convenience and dignity a porta-potty gave them instead of finding a bush in the woods or using a chamber pot/bucket. You could have large events in remote areas without the need of building an expensive permanent bathroom, simply having a couple wooden shacks dropped off was more convenient and more cost effective.
As time went by our standards steadily rose, from the old wooden unsanitary toilets to the modern plastic porta potties that are popular at large public events, they've steadily improved, however in the last 10-20 years our standards have simply outpaced the development of the porta-potty as we know it today. Most people can remember a time when they went to a large public gathering with several rows of smelly dirty porta potties, upon looking inside you’d swear that you were the only person there that had been potty trained. It’s no wonder that most people will raise their voice whenever one appears in their neighborhood. Would you want to look out the window of your home to a portable toilet in your or your neighbors front lawn, heaven forbid smelling it.
In the last 10 years a new type of portable restroom has steadily been gaining popularity and acceptance. Some call them VIP toilets, others executive washrooms, however their official name is a portable restroom trailer. Unlike a porta potty these trailers flush so you no longer have to stare into an open hole with other peoples waste in it. Inside they can look like an airplane lavatory upto a bathroom at a 5 star hotel. These bathrooms are not cheap however, they’re as expensive to buy as a nice new car and thus several times more expensive to rent than a traditional porta-potty. However for some who are after quality & substance over economy they’re a great way to impress your guests at a party or to have the comforts of home wherever you maybe.
